Do You need to hire a second photographer at your wedding?

As much as us photographer’s would love to be in two places at once, it's totally impossible for us to capture absolutely everything, as much as we try. The secret to getting ALL those event’s across the day photographed is to have two photographers.  

How it works

The photographer you hire will have one of these options; they come as a pair within the business, they hire out associate photographers, they have a team of photographers they regularly work with.

All three of these options work, as you are always getting a second photographer, however do be careful when it comes to associate photographer’s as this might mean that the main photographer you think you are booking won’t actually be there and their associates will be hired out instead. So make sure this is made clear to you so you know who to potentially expect on the day.

What I do when you book me and my second photographer.

If you opt to have a second photographer in your wedding photography package I will immediately book them out for your wedding date. I have an intimate and trustworthy list of photographers who I hire for your wedding day. These photographer’s have been trained and worked with me on countless weddings to photograph the approach and style that my business is.

I discuss with them the timeline you and me have discussed and I’ll chat through every little detail that is required with them. They get a back story of you both so they can understand your vibe as a couple and know a head of the wedding your goals and limits. You’ll also be told and e-meet who to expect so there are no surprises on the day!

On the day, we arrive and finish at the same time. We rarely work in the same spot as each other and to start I’ll be with one of the couples and the second photographer would be with the other. We would meet at the ceremony but in different areas for two different angles. After the ceremony we split up again where I will be out photographing the couple for their portrait and any guest photos, while the second photographer will be photographing the reception and décoration details.  

We are both on hand throughout the day for any in the moment photos, grab one of us at any time! Don’t be shy.

We will finally sit down and chat through the day so far during our food break (whilst you eat) and check what’s been covered and how to approach the rest of the day.  

We message each other throughout if we are in different locations, letting each other know one of us is on their way to ceremony, any delays with one of the couples etc. So we always know what’s happening even if were not nearby each other.

The benefit of this of course is that you result in a lot more photos and a lot more variations. More events will be covered by your photographer allowing to really tell your story.

  1. Do you have a large guest list (50+) and want to make sure there are lot's of photos of everyone who's there?

  2. Are you and your partner getting ready at the same time in different locations that are far apart?

  3. Are you wanting photos of the ceremony and reception styling undisturbed prior to the arrival of your guests?

  4. Are you wanting arrival photos of you and your guests before the ceremony?

  5. Do you want your guests photographed at the reception while you (the couple) and groups are being photographed?

  6. Do you want different angles throughout the day? E.g. ceremony, walking down the aisle and reactions, speeches, first dance etc. 

If you answered yes to any of these, then you need a second photographer at your wedding!
