Autumn Vibes: How to Style Your Outdoor Maternity Photoshoot

I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful maternity session outdoors, perfect for the autumn season!

We chose a woodland setting with water running through it, adding a enchanting touch to the shoot.

With the stunning autumnal colours as our backdrop, each outfit change complemented the natural autumnal tones—warm hues and cosy layers that matched the season’s vibe perfectly.

Autumn is a magical season, with its vibrant foliage and soft golden light providing a stunning backdrop for maternity photos. As you prepare for your outdoor maternity photoshoot, selecting the right outfits can enhance the beauty of your images and ensure you feel comfortable and confident. Here are some styling tips that embrace the essence of autumn while keeping you chic and cozy.

Chic Suit

A tailored suit is an elegant choice for a maternity photoshoot, combining sophistication with a modern edge. Opt for a well-fitted suit in warm, autumnal hues like rust, mustard, or deep green or stay with the classic black or white. A fitted blazer paired with tailored trousers can beautifully accentuate your bump while allowing for movement and comfort.

Styling Tips

- Choose a suit with a structured silhouette that highlights your curves.

- Layer with a fitted turtleneck or a soft blouse underneath for added warmth and style.

- Complete the look with heeled ankle boots to elevate your silhouette and create a chic, polished vibe.

Cosy Jumper Dress

For a softer, more relaxed look, a cosy jumper dress is perfect for an autumn maternity shoot. These versatile pieces are both comfortable and stylish, allowing you to showcase your bump without feeling restricted.

Styling Tips

- Opt for chunky knit textures or soft fabrics in warm shades like forest green, burgundy, olive, or cream.

- Consider wearing the dress with a belt to accentuate your waist and highlight your bump.

- Pair with knee-high boots or ankle boots to complete the cozy look, and don’t forget to accessorise with a chunky scarf for added warmth and style.

Autumnal Colour Statement Outfits

Autumn is all about rich, warm colours that evoke a sense of cosiness. When planning your maternity shoot, consider outfits that make a statement with autumnal hues. Think deep oranges, golden yellows, and rich browns that resonate with the season's palette.

Styling Tips

- Layer different textures, like a soft cardigan over a fitted top or a flowy maxi skirt in a bold autumn shade. This adds dimension and interest to your outfit.

- Incorporate accessories like hats or scarves that not only complement your outfit but also keep you warm.

- Choose fabrics that flow well, such as chiffon or cotton blends, allowing for beautiful movement in your photos as you pose amongst the autumn leaves.

Thank you so much for capturing these precious moments for me. I was in two minds about having a maternity shoot but I am so glad I did.

I have really struggled with all the personal changes during pregnancy but Emma put me at ease from the beginning and reassured me throughout the whole experience. From the first consultation, to the awesome hair and make up, styling…all the way through to the photo reveal meeting.
Thank you! You are one talented lady. I love the photos & shall cherish them.

An autumnal outdoor maternity photoshoot is a wonderful way to capture the beauty of your pregnancy amidst the changing seasons. By choosing stylish outfits like a chic suit, a cosy jumper dress, or a vibrant autumnal colour palette, you can create a stunning visual narrative that reflects both your personal style and the essence of fall.

Remember to dress comfortably, embrace the warmth of the season, and most importantly, enjoy this special moment. Your maternity photos will serve as cherished memories, celebrating the beauty of motherhood during one of nature's most beautiful times of the year. Happy styling!

When should you have your pregnancy photoshoot?

The mum-to-be was around 22 weeks pregnant, perfect for announcements and early stages of pregnancy.

Each woman is different, each bump grows differently! If you feel more comfortable earlier on in your pregnancy then opt for a photoshoot around the 28 week mark.
